World Cancer Day 2023 official ceremony with the theme “Uniting our voices and taking action” was observed at Camp Fouquereaux Social Welfare Center, in the presence of Dr the Honorable Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal, Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr (Mrs) Anne Marie Ancia, WHO Representative in Mauritius and other eminent personalities. Cancer is the third main cause of death in Mauritius, including around 18.7% men who suffer from prostate cancer and 35.2% of women suffer from colorectal cancer and cervical cancer.

In the context of the World Health Day 2023 and the 75th Anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO) the Ministry of Health and Wellness in collaboration with the WHO, the National Insurance Company Ltd, the Diabetes Foundation Mauritius and the Heart Foundation (Mauritius) organised the 6th Health Promotion Campaign on Saturday 08 April 2023 at Municipality of Vacoas / Phoenix. The launching ceremony was performed by Dr the Hon Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal, Minister of Health and Wellness, Hon Serge Gilbert Bablee, Parliamentary Private Secretary, Hon Ashley Ittoo, Member of National Assembly, Mr Praveen Kumar Ramburn, Mayor, Municipality of Vacoas / Phoenix, Dr Anne Marie Ancia, WHO Representative in Mauritius and Mrs Reena Moonoosamy, Group Chief Services Officer, National Insurance Company Ltd in the presence of other eminent personalities.

In the context of the World No Tobacco Day 2023, a series of activities were launched on Wednesday 31st May 2023 in the presence of The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Hon (Mrs) Leela Devi Dookhun-Luchoomun and the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr the Hon Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal at the Shrimati Indira Gandhi State Secondary School in Quartier Militaire.The World Health Organisation (WHO) representative, Dr Anne Marie Ancia, and other eminent personalities were also present.The theme retained for this year is: ‘’WE NEED FOOD, NOT TOBACCO”

An official ceremony was organised by the Ministry of Health and Wellness on Saturday 24 June 2023 to launch activities in the context of the International Yoga Day 2023, at Sports Hall, Côte d’Or National Sports Complex in the presence Dr the Hon Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal, Minister of Health and Wellness and Mrs K. Nandini Singla,High Commissioner of India to Mauritius and other distinguished personalities.

In the context of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed annually on 26 June, a Pacific March regrouping some 2,500 persons was organised on Wednesday 28 June 2023 in Flacq, with the aim of raising awareness on the harmful effects of the use of illicit drugs.

The event was an initiative of the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the District Council of Flacq. A free medical checkup and a blood donation activity was also held for the public.
