Earlier in his academic career, he authored a book titled ‘A Modern Approach to Hinduism’, reflecting his engagement with educational and cultural scholarship at the time.

Beyond education, Minister Bachoo has long been committed to social service and community engagement. He has played an active role in socio-cultural organisations across Mauritius and has been the driving force behind several major national initiatives. Most notably, through the Mangal Mahadev Shakti Swaroopa Association, he spearheaded the construction of the iconic 108-foot statues of Lord Shiva and Durga Maa at Grand Bassin. These landmarks stand today as powerful symbols of spirituality, cultural heritage, and national pride. A lifelong student of Indian philosophy, he carries forward values of discipline, service, and cultural rootedness in his public life.

Minister Bachoo entered politics in 1978 and went on to serve as General Secretary of the Labour Party. Today, in his fifth mandate as Minister, he is entrusted with the strategic portfolio of Health and Wellness.

In the early 2000s, during his tenure as Minister of Public Infrastructure, Anil Kumar Bachoo played a key role in ushering in a new phase of development in Ebene, with the rollout of a modern road network that laid the foundations for the area’s transformation into a major business hub. His mandate also saw the modernisation and expansion of road infrastructure across the country, alongside significant investments in the education sector, including the construction of numerous schools around the island to support growing educational needs.

At the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Minister Bachoo is leading major reforms to strengthen the public healthcare system. He is piloting a landmark e-Health project aimed at modernising patient records, improving efficiency, and ensuring better coordination across hospitals and health services. He has placed strong emphasis on preventive healthcare, particularly in addressing non-communicable diseases that affect a large segment of the population. Guided by a holistic vision of health, he is also deeply committed to the promotion of traditional medicine as a complementary pillar of modern healthcare. With the full support of the Government of India, he is spearheading the establishment of an AYUSH Centre of Excellence in Mauritius.
