Dr the Hon Anwar Husnoo, Minister of Health and Quality of Life, led a delegation to pay an official visit to Rodrigues from 16-19 April, 2017.
In the course of the visit, a work session was held on 17 April, 2017 with
Mr Pierre Rousetty, Commissioner of Health and Sports and the Departmental Head responsible for health. It was a thought provoking session where important aspects such as treatment of patients from Rodrigues in Mauritius, reinforcement of personnel, training, and improvement of facilities to cope with health care in Rodrigues were raised.
A thorough visit was undertaken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The opportunity was taken to hand over a much needed specialised equipment to facilitate Ophthalmology treatment of patients in Rodrigues. It was important to improve the Laboratory Information System (LIMS). A report on the coming into operation of the LIMS was submitted for implementation.
Over the years, a proposal has been made for a new Operation Theatre and to put a new block with wards for admission and treatment of patients. Arrangements will be made for a Hospital Architect/Planner to assist with concept/design for new operation theatre facility and new block to be provided to meet evolving need for health service.
Visits were then undertaken to La Ferme Hospital. A contract was under way for relocation of X-Ray, appropriate provision for Pharmacy and addition of new wards to meet the emerging health demand of the locality.
At Mon Lubin Health Hospital, upgrading work was on-going. A visit was undertaken to the Detox/Rehabilitation Centre run with the support of benevolent NGO Group playing a key role for adaption and integration of persons who are victims of harmful effect of drug to enable them to lead a normal and productive life once again. At a function organized on 18 April, 2017 at the Prairie Resource Centre, the Report on the Non-Communicable Diseases Survey for 2015 for Rodrigues was launched by the Minister of Health and Quality of Life.
In the afternoon of 18 April, 2017 the Minister of Health and Quality of Life was delighted to launch the campaign for ‘Prevention pour maladies non-transmissibles; in Rodrigues. With the help of Doctors, Nurses and benevolent groups a Health/Medical check-up exercise was undertaken. It was an opportunity to offer free medical test for diabetes, blood sugar level, blood pressure level as well as weight/body Mass Index measurement to raise consciousness on the necessity to sensitise inhabitants to maintain themselves in healthy.
It was a constructive, fruitful visit where agreement was reached to improve collaboration, to prevent and curb Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD), to improve overall services, to provide for Community Health oriented care, to enhance health and medical services for the inhabitants of Rodrigues.
